Although this is an extremely old article, and may seem irrelevant, I found it to be very historic considering the fact that several days ago we had the 1st black president inaugurated into office. And like FDR in 1933 President Obama is faced with an extreme challenge: to fix this country’s economic crisis. This matters to me because like a lot of other middle class citizens my parents are affected by the crisis that is currently happening in the U.S., and like Franklin Delano Roosevelt did throughout his three terms, Barack Obama needs to fix this country’s worsening economy before it’s too late and were in a depression.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-55016981911654429892009-02-01T19:43:00.001-08:002009-02-01T19:43:58.657-08:00Lost GenerationIn class we watched a YouTube video called “Lost Generation” In this video it had a girl saying negative things then rewound the video and it turned out to be that she was saying things that all of us should be thinking. This video really matters to me because we all need to change the world to become a better world so we can thrive In years to come. I think this video symbolizes many things but the one thing I think me and my peers got out of watching it was that when times are bad we need to come together to change the world. And we can all do this by one simple act of kindness.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-41507084009647618572009-01-11T19:04:00.000-08:002009-01-11T19:10:17.312-08:00I Remember WhenIn the commercial we watched on Friday it talked about how everything that was once
"new" and "hip" is now outdated and there is probably something better then it. I think this says a lot about society today in the sense that a computer was once the greatest invention ever, now we have computers the size of our hands. I remember when we wanted to get on the computer, someone would have to be off the phone. I also remember when the world was introduced to music on an ipod instead of a CD. I think the inventions of yesterday explain an enormous amount about how were living now in 2009.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-63524057039295323602009-01-07T22:15:00.000-08:002009-01-07T22:25:34.617-08:00Brainstorming for Position Paper10 topics for position paper-

1. This item is very near and dear to my heart. I have it in my room because my dad served in the USMC from 1968-1971. This flag makes me proud to be an American, and it makes me know that I’m a lucky kid, who is very blessed.

Item two: My Remington 870 express pump. This would be my gun. I recently got it and I love it. I am an avid hunter, and mainly hunt water-fowl. These boots were hand-me-downs from my dad when he was about my age. I’ve been wearing them ever since my feet have been able to fit into them. This matters to me because I have two cousins who go to Louis Ames. Although the district needs to do this for financial reasons, I think it will take a toll on the parents of students who go to these two schools. I think a good solution to these closures is talking it out with the school board and the parents to agree on something that will be convenient and money saving.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-42181524736964653672008-11-16T16:58:00.000-08:002008-11-16T17:16:06.552-08:00PLN 9In my article “Obama: Economy the greatest challenge” it talks about how President-Elect Barack Obama is going to change this nations economic crisis. This is important to me and others around me because right now our country is in a recession, and not only is it affecting the adults, but it’s affecting the youth of today who are going to have to clean up after these irresponsible bankers and politicians. I think to fix this we need to stop giving people money who don’t need it, and we need to restrict the CEO’s of the banks from going on lavish retreats while the rest of the country sits and watches our countries fall into a depression.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-31277065918934393052008-11-07T12:36:00.001-08:002008-11-07T12:36:25.939-08:00PLN 8In the article “Copper opens tomorrow, a week early” what matters is the resorts early opening which in the long run gives people seven extra days of fun in the snow. This relates to me because I am an avid skier/snowboarder and last season I went up every weekend to copper and winter park. I think this will be good for the resort because it will bring them more annual revenue and the outcome of this early opening will be more satisfaction to the world’s skiers and snowboarders and more money for Copper.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-13713362819516971352008-11-04T19:11:00.000-08:002008-11-04T19:12:01.871-08:00PLN 7In the Denver post articles I picked “Duck hunters getting no relief” In this article what matters is figuring out what to do during hunting season because masses of water-fowl are still in Canada. This is an important subject to me because I am an avid hunter of not only water-fowl, but big game too. I am extremely worried that this upcoming hunting season that started on the 1st of November will be rather dull. I think we need to take action and somehow find a way to get the masses of water-fowl to migrate south. I think that one of the causes of this hunting nightmare is global warming; I think that when people think about global warming they think about fuel efficient cars, and recycling. However, what they do not realize is that global warming is taking a huge toll on the water-fowl hunters of the Midwest, Northern Prairies, and Eastern Plains. Although things are bad in most of the “hunting hotspots” in south eastern Colorado in the Arkansas River Valley many birds are showing up. This is good for me because two weekends from now I am going hunting in that area of Colorado, and hope to get some sort of bird.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-50018813922592902152008-10-28T19:02:00.002-07:002008-10-28T19:17:42.281-07:00PLN 5For my story I picked CDOT rolls out its I-70 winter plan. In this article they talk about the snow plows and ice melters being more prepared for winter this upcoming snowy season. This matters to me because I am an avid snowboarder. As soon as the snow hits the ground I am ready to tear up the slopes. I hope that CDOT can be prepared for what winter throws at them because I know how un-safe the roads can be during an ice storm or a blinding blizzard, and I have had friends who have been hurt in car accidents on there way to a fun weekend in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. However, they’re not so beautiful when you get in a head on collision with another car.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-77227658753069282402008-10-28T19:02:00.001-07:002008-10-28T19:02:36.871-07:00PLN 6For my topic I picked the article “US military deaths in Iraq war at 4,188” by the Denver Post. For many people this is a sore subject, because with talk about the war brings talk about the economy and the upcoming elections. This is an especially fragile subject for the military families who have sons, daughters, husbands, uncles and many more fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. This is a subject that I was drawn to because right now my Dad is in Iraq, although he is not in the military he is still in one of the most dangerous places in the world surrounded by extremists who at the drop of a hat would take his life. Sometimes I get extremely worried about my dad when I hear about all the deaths taking place in Iraq. So far the death toll has hit 4,188, and every night I pray to god that my Dad doesn’t make the count 4,189.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-67411247872901988142008-10-27T18:31:00.001-07:002008-10-27T18:31:13.497-07:00PLN 4In the Nata Village blog many things matter. This is a place where there aren’t many natural resources and the people are extremely poor. In this blog it talks about how the village is prepared for the worst with disaster centers. This is good because now the people of the village can have a place to go in a time of need. This can help people because it will help make sure that they are always safe during anything Mother Nature throws at them. This matters to me because we too have disasters in the U.S. for example hurricane Katrina, during that hurricane we had very little ideas to turn to. Our levees were broken, and FEMA failed to do its duties. This makes me even more attached to the idea so the people of the village don’t have to go through what the citizens of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi had to go through.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-5239605421557272792008-10-27T18:11:00.001-07:002008-10-27T18:12:54.139-07:00PLN 3In the article Mountain Highways snarled by bad weather by the Rocky Mountain News, it talks about winter just around the corner. They talk about the chilly weather, icy roads, and also snow. With the snow and cold weather brings skiing and snowboarding. I remember the huge snow we got in December of 2006, it was bigger then me! I just started snowboarding again and recently got a new snowboard and all brand new snow gear. When I think of winter, and all of the snow that comes with it I think of Christmas and all of the presents I want to get. The first winter weather of the season brought icy roads, and other hazardous driving conditions, especially in the mountain areas. Ski areas, however, had some natural snow to prepare for opening day which is creeping closer and closer everyday. Denver still hasn’t gotten snow, but the newspaper talks about a bit of snow and rain coming to Denver soon. So everyone be prepared! Because winter is right around the corner, ready to unleash a fury of flakes.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-89259191605263470872008-10-20T15:53:00.000-07:002008-10-20T15:55:38.260-07:00Did You Know- Karl FischI think many things matter in the video “Did You Know” by Karl Fisch. For instance the amount of infants coming into our world every 8 seconds is 34. I think this is important because these little kids shape our future. Without this latest generation the world would come to a stand-still.

In the short film “Did You Know” I learned a lot of new statistics. I realized that without the youth of today our world would be nothing. However, like it says in the short film “What will the world be like, for them?” I think that if we didn’t have the technology that we have today, generations to come would be un-educated, and eventually it would lead to the downfall of human civilization in the long run.

As you can obviously see, the world today relies on the youth of tomorrow. Without the amazing educational programs of the U.K. and the U.S. and many other countries the world would slowly decline.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-33187334130205751342008-09-30T13:08:00.000-07:002008-09-30T13:09:17.241-07:00Michael Wesch Video Response "What Matters"I think many things matter in this video made by Michael Wesch. For instance the way the web is changing the world and the choices we make daily, in the early 80’s when we first had the Mac computer there was little to no way of doing things we can now. Now I will discuss further the way the internet changes the way humans behave.
In the short film we saw yesterday I realized that the internet changes us with every new website, and internet tool. In the movie there was a quote “machines are using us” shortly thereafter it said “we are the machine” I think this is 100% true. Over 1 billion people get on the internet daily, and with sites like Wikipedia it gives humans the power to change the internet. Whether it changing the internet by changing a couple words, or changing the internet by re arranging web sites etc…
As you can obviously see, the internet has changed drastically. In the beginning of the 80’s there was almost no information on the web, now there is Wikipedia, and Google, and millions of other search engines and amazing web pages.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-41373529859363384632008-09-29T12:57:00.000-07:002008-09-29T13:15:56.453-07:00Machines Are Using UsNotes:
Michael Wesch

-Text is unlinear
-A lot of movement with the computer
-a lot easier to use
-A way of communicating
-HTML codes, etc...
-"The machine is us"
-Extremely easy to abuse (Wikipedia)

anthropology
love
html
links
un-linear
digital
texts
web 2.0EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1732396633897183488.post-29143391203842677052008-08-27T13:13:00.001-07:002008-08-27T13:13:29.112-07:00There are several things in my life that I value; my family, my friends and my country. Now I will tell you about my values, and why there important to me.
My family is basically the backbone of my life; they mean the world to me. I have a loving dad named Steve, he lives on another continent and still manages to make sure that me and my sister safe. My dad always loved to quote to kill a mockingbird he always says to me and my sister “Keep your head up, and your fists down” I always think of this quote when I face trouble or when I’m confused, it reminds me to stay strong, and always stand up for what you believe in. My guardian Robert Rogers, is probably the cockiest man I have ever met, he always tells me to stay strong and keep fighting, when I’m around him it’s unacceptable to say the words “never” or “fail” he doesn’t quit at anything, he’s relentless.
Another thing I appreciate deeply is my friends. I would be nowhere without them. Whenever I’m mad or sad, my friends always manage to make me laugh. We always have the best of times, even if we do get in some trouble every now and then. My friends are basically my heroes.
The last thing I value, and also one of the most important things is my country. Without my country and my countries ideals I wouldn’t be where I am today, I respect my government and the decisions they make.
As you can obviously see, my friends, family, and country mean the world to me.EthanR2012http://www.blogger.com/profile/05437456033770866677noreply@blogger.com0
